They are going to come out of the woodwork, but fortunately, a nice trap was set for them over a month ago, using weather from over 40 years ago.
Just before the Ice Age scare of the 70s turned into Gore’s Global Warming Apocalypse.
From 1984-1985. You can not find a better set up. And that I showed it dozens of times laid the trap they are already walking into.
I love this. Remember how much I was tweeting about the similarities to late December 1984 and the wicked cold that invaded in January? Look at this: deviations from normal December 26–30, 1984, and 2025,

followed by a cold wave in January in both years. Weatherbell.com subscribers and our commercial clients probably got sick of me talking about it, but it’s wild how close the pattern was. There was no “climate change” talk back in 1985. It started a few years later, and in fact, 1985 was at the tail end of the ice age scare. The fact is, the same kind of setup occurred—plenty of warmth over the Arctic, something that has happened from time to time—and we saw it clearly in our August winter forecast.
The threat of a cold winter looms.
Plenty of blocking is expected over the Arctic.
A prominent Alaskan ridge should lead to plenty of cold air.
Another cold period from Thanksgiving to Christmas is on the table.
The heart of the winter looks coldest relative to average. (From the August 29, 2025, forecast bullet points.)
It was occurring a lot back in the 70s and 80s. And that was not climate change then.
I love using analogs. They pop into my head when I see something, way in advance. They don’t always work, but when you set something up and you see the dominoes fall, you realize you have an advantage on long-range forecasts that didn’t understand the way this winter was going to average out—by huge swings and extremes. And now the cold is having its day (it’s been in the Northeast all year), and it’s not going to leave overall. Looks like an American Pie February (made me shiver with each forecast I’d deliver).
To hit something like that needs divine intervention. How else would I somehow go to an analog that turned out so close?
And think about that. The great lesson of the weather is you learn awe and humility in the face of the creation because you see these examples and they pop into your head. Yet you have people who had no idea this was even on the table—or that there were such strong similarities to the same kind of setups from the past (in this case, 1985 stood out)—now coming on and claiming it’s climate change. Just like I truly believe that some of my better days and my ability to remember things have something to do with the mission God gave me in the weather, I can also recognize the opposite when know-nothings come out and blame something without having any idea that it happened before. Ignorance and arrogance on display every time someone blames climate change for things that happened before and can be used to set up what you see now. If truth is a trait of God, what is outright deception on a matter like this a trait of?
When you hear someone blaming climate change for this—when it has happened before and we showed last month why we had an example that we had to watch for—you know they are coming from a point of deception (they know and just lie) or ignorance. It’s one or the other, but in both cases, it’s not the truth.
