Germany’s climate skeptics were recently arguing that their “double-digit negative temperatures and more than 80 centimeters (30 inches) of snow” casts doubt on the global warming crisis hysteria. But alarmists fired back, hoping to convince you “the effects of global warming may even have favored the extremely cold temperatures.”
Such dishonest claims illustrate why the climate crisis narrative is an anti-science hoax! The effects of rising CO2 can never be falsified as honest science demands. Warm or cold, floods or droughts, climate snake oil sales people will tell you CO2 causes whatever ails you. Sadly, the idiot Chicken Littles believe giving politicians control over their lives will save them.
To counter any climate crisis doubts and stifle calls for honest climate debates, alarmists trot out debunked claims from a few alarmist researchers, hoping to convince you that global warming also causes a weaker jet stream which unusually allows cold Arctic air to plunge southward. (December 1, 2023 headlines upper panel)
The alarmists are betting that the public doesn’t know about the North Atlantic Oscillation that European sailors have documented for 2 centuries, because the winter winds they depended on exhibit a strong west-to-east pattern then periodically shift to a wavy jet stream pattern (upper panel right illustration).
Alarmists are also betting that the public is ignorant of seasonal changes in the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) that basically follows the sun overhead position. The latitude of the ITCZ affects atmosphere’s circulation cells and thus the position and strength of the polar and subtropical jet steams (middle panel). During the northern hemisphere’s summer, the jet stream moves northward. During the winter the jet moves southward, naturally allowing more cold air to migrate equatorward.
The ITCZ’s position also correlates with significant climate change over the past 10,000 years. Scientists determined the ITCZ similarly moved southward during the Little Ice Age 1300 AD to 1850 AD. Then the ITCZ migrated northward, correlating with the current warming trend since 1850. Likewise, the warm Holocene Climatic Optimum correlated with the northernmost ITCZ position, while the earth’s cooling trend over the last 6000 years correlates with the ITCZ steadily moving southward due to the earth axis’ changing obliquity.
Lastly, compare the polar jet stream’s position, strength, and waviness in June 2023 vs December 2023. The bottom panel shows the strength of the jet stream winds illustrated in the screen shots from the US National Weather Service’s model. Thicker and darker red lines represent a stronger jet stream.
First, notice the northern polar jet stream moves so far equatorward each winter, that it often merges with the subtropical jet, especially during El Nino years. This allows cold air to naturally migrate southward.
Second, notice the polar jet streams are stronger in winter, not weaker, because the temperature difference between the Arctic and tropics naturally increases every winter.
Finally notice all the jet streams are naturally wavy, even in the southern hemisphere that has not experienced the same Arctic warming that alarmists rant about.
So beware of every grifter telling you that warming is causing colder temperatures, they are enemies of truth.
