3 Critical Climate Dynamics that Trap Earth’s Heat: A zoom presentation to SF’s Economic Round Table

Jim Steele

This presentation was given to members of the San Francisco Economic Roundtable June 28, 2023 via Zoom.

It discusses the 3 most important dynamics that trap the earth’s heat and contribute to the earth’s warming, each in different ways: greenhouse effect, suppressed atmospheric convection and suppressed ocean convection.

While the greenhouse effects makes earth a livable warm planet, heat domes suppress convection causing extreme heat waves, and oceans store and transport solar energy around the world but store very little, if any, energy from greenhouse infrared.

Jim Steele is an ecologist and Director emeritus of San Francisco State University’s Sierra Nevada Field Campus, (whose research restored a critical watershed), author of Landscapes and Cycles: An Environmentalist’s Journey to climate Skepticism, and proud member of the CO2 Coalition
