‘Extremely hypocritical’ for Greens to oppose nuclear power

LNP Senator Gerard Rennick has told Sky News it is “so ironic” how the Greens push for low emissions more than any other party, yet are the “most adamant against” nuclear power.

It comes as five Nationals Senators including former ministers Bridget McKenzie and Matt Canavan will move an amendment to legislation which will allow the Clean Energy Finance Corporation to invest in nuclear generators.

Australia accounts for around a third of the world’s uranium reserves while producing 10 per cent of the world’s global production to be exported.

“It’s extremely hypocritical of the left parties to be opposed to nuclear,” Senator Rennick said.

“If the PM wishes to pursue this course (net zero emissions by 2050) he has to go nuclear. We are not going to get there purely by wind and solar alone.”
