Gales, Heavy Rainfall, Floods–August 1971

Probably the most extreme August in our series was that of 1971.

Much of northern England saw double the usual rainfall, and there were some extremely heavy rainfalls at times. Flooding was reported in many places as far apart as Bristol, Durham, Londonderry and York.

To cap it all, temperatures fell below freezing on the 8th in Lanarkshire:
