The “demonisation” of coal-fired power will lead to unaffordable energy prices, according to Sky News host Alan Jones.

“Last week, the Tomago smelter in NSW, one of Australia’s biggest electricity users, shut down three times,” Mr Jones said.

“The power price, normally between $50 a megawatt hour and $100, climbed, at one stage, to $14,500 per megawatt hour.

Why?

“Tomago shut down, because it couldn’t afford the price.

“This is where we are heading with this demonisation of coal-fired power. In the end, massive businesses like the Tomago smelter in NSW will have to close.”
