As the government tries to push through the United Nations Declaration of Rights for Indigenous Peoples (Bill C-15), it turns out that lots of First Nations people do NOT consent to this bill…which is supposed to be all about ensuring the consent of First Nations on resource and infrastructure development.
Michelle Stirling, Communications Manager for Friends of Science, looks back in her files and finds that this impetus dates back many years, and is mostly based on foreign influence.
In other words, Bill C-15 is ‚made in Geneva‘ – not made in Canada – and it may upset the treaty rights and relationship with the Crown that is presently in place.
Treaty 6, Treaty 7, and Treaty 8, First Nations do not consent. So let’s listen to their concerns and not continue greenwashing by environmental groups.
