Canada signed on to COP21, the Paris Agreement, as a voluntary agreement.
But various parties are trying to enshrine Canada’s self-imposed, voluntary GHG emissions targets in law, and other countries are trying to force a Global Carbon Tax Law into being, by turning the Paris Agreement into a ‘rule book’.
This is the ongoing enterprise of the “Conference of the Parties” (COP) who are signatory to the original United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) declaration.
At the upcoming COP26, these parties will try again to institute such a law; but Friends of Science argues that such a law would be extremely detrimental to Canada and to democracies, as the majority of the parties pushing for the agreement are not fossil fuel producing nations, and none of the top 11 oil producing countries are democracies – none, except Canada and the USA.
On top of that, a group of children led by Greta Thunberg, are now demanding that ‘ecocide’ be made a criminal offense and the foreign=funded activist group, Ecojustice, is trying to use the voluntary Paris Agreement as the basis for imposing a climate accountability law in Canada.
Should your future and the future of democracy be decided by children and activists?
