Ojai is just inland from Santa Barbara and is one of my favorite towns in California. On this date in 1917 the reported temperature was 128 degrees, and the town burned up. Today is 57 degrees cooler than 1917.

The hottest June 16 across the US occurred a year later in 1918, and the second hottest occurred in 1913
A few weeks later in 1913, California set the world record temperature of 134 degrees.
And a few weeks earlier was some of the worst flooding, tornadoes and fires in US history.
